From McGarvey, J.W., Sermons delivered in Louisville, Kentucky (Cincinnati: Standard Publishing Company, no date), first published 1894. A sermon delivered by J.W. McGarvey at the Broadway Christian Church, Lexington, KY, 11 June 1893. J.W. (John William) McGarvey (1829-1911) was one of the leading ministers and religious educators of the American Restoration Movement.
In this lesson McGarvey examines what God expects of our stewardship of material possessions, particularly as it relates to financial support of charity, evangelism, and the general expenses of the local congregation. He challenges us to be accountable to one another for our giving, in order to avoid the temptation of selfishness.
